Dina Hany is an Australian Egyptian Artist / Filmmaker based between Sydney and Cairo. Her films act as constellations. One point unfolds to reveal an entire cosmology of signs where womanhood, nature and the infinite interact.
Using documentary, poetic realism +
speculative mythology, her work explores the notion of home, Afro-Arab hybridity and its futurisms. Dina’s practice revolves around the seeking out of third spaces where culture has no fixity. Through that space she implores the desire to belong and to migrate, and the costs involved in both choices.
Dina graduated from both the Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS) in Documentary Screen and Goldsmiths University, London (MFA Artists’ Film & Moving Image). Currently, she is in the production phase of her long term Transmedia project, Blue Lotus.
